이 책은 국내에서 최초로 시인 이기철의 시를 영어로 번역한 대역본이다. 지금까지 시인이 출간한 열여덟 권의 시집에서 애착을 가진 54편의 작품을 직접 선정한 것을 번역하였다. 이기철은 거의 반세기에 걸쳐 詩作을 해 온 한국의 대표적 시인으로서 특유의 토속적 서정과 함께, 인간의 보편적 삶에 담긴 진리를 시로 표현하고 있다.

The Profile of Kee-Chul Lee

Kee-Chul Lee was born in Geochang, Gyeongsangnam-do, Republic of Korea in 1943. He is Professor Emeritus at Yeungnam University. He made a literary debut through the Hyundae Munhak (Modern Literature) in 1972. Since then, he has published twenty volumes of poetry such as Cheonsanhaeng, Song That I Wish to Sing on Earth, Days of Glass, Those Whom I Have Met Were All Beautiful, The Warmest Book, Pilgrimage at Noon, Tree―My Mother Tongue, At the Makeup Hour of Flowers, and Sansansusuhwahwachocho (Mountains Waters Flowers Grasses), among others. He was awarded Kim Su-yeong Literary Award, Choe Gye-rak Literary Award, and Hukwang Literary Award.

Profile of Jeo-Yong Noh

Jeo-Yong Noh was born in Hamyang, Gyeongsangnam-do, Republic of Korea in 1948. He was awarded a DPhil in English literature from the University of Oxford in 1991. He retired from teaching at Yeungnam University in 2013, and served the T S Eliot Society of Korea as president from 2003 to 2005. He published Biographical Themes in T. S. Eliot’s Early Poetry, T. S. Eliot and the Criterion, and “Action Française” Condemnation and Other Essays. He also published Korean Buddhist Poems in English translation, Omeros, and Ronald Stuart Thomas: Collected Poems 1945~1990 in Korean for the first time.
