구병옥은 건국대학교를 졸업한 후 개신대학원대학교에서 목회학석사(M.Div. equiv.)를 마쳤으며, 도미하여 Calvin Theological Seminary에서 신학석사(Th.M.)를, Asbury Theological Seminary에서 “Multicultural Congregations as Models for Mono-cultural Korean Churches: Reaching Out to Non-Koreans in the United States” (Asbury Theological Seminary, 2013)라는 제목으로 철학박사 학위(Ph.D.)를 취득하였다. 현재 개신대학교 대학원에서 실천신학 교수로 재직 중이다.
