국가기간 뉴스통신사인 연합뉴스가 22일 영문연감 ‘코리아 애뉴얼(KOREA ANNUAL)' 2015년판(통권 44호)을 발간했다.
'코리아 애뉴얼'은 외국 정부기관과 기업·단체, 외국인에게 한국의 모습을 보다 정확히 알리기 위해 연합뉴스가 발행하는 국내 유일의 영문판 연감이다.
이번 연감에는 지난 한 해 한국의 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화, 스포츠, 지방, 북한 등 분야별 뉴스를 총망라하고 역사와 지리, 언어, 풍습 관련 정보도 담았다.
특히 초점으로 세월호 침몰 대참사, 프란치스코 교황 방한, 헌법재판소 ‘통합진보당’ 첫 정당해산 결정, 6.4 지방선거 여야 무승부, 경기침체 장기화와 무상복지 논란, 조현아 대한항공 전 부사장 ‘땅콩 회황’ 파문 등을 자세히 다뤘다.
본문에는 사진, 그래픽 등을 대폭 확대 했으며 화제의 인물, 정부기관 디렉터리, 각종 연표와 주요 통계를 수록했다.
휴대하며 볼 수 있도록 핸드북 형태로 제작했다.

Yonhap publishes 2015 English almanac

Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's main newswire service, has published the 2015 edition of "Korea Annual," an English almanac that covers all the main events and issues that defined the country last year.
This year's edition aims to better inform foreign government organizations, businesses and people about South Korea. It is also the only English-language almanac published in the country.
The almanac contains all the latest information on South Korea and covers a wide range of areas including politics, economy, society, culture, sports and North Korea. It also contains general information on the country's history, geography, language, customs.
In particular, the almanac provides detailed coverage of the shock of the Sewol ferry sinking, Pope Francis' visit to South Korea, dissolution of Unified Progressive Party (UPP), June 4 local elections end in draw, prolonged economic recession and welfare debates, Korean Air heiress in "Nut Rage" incident.
Various chronological tables and key statistics have also been included.
This year, the almanac's layout has been enhanced with photos and graphics. It has been made into a handbook for easier use.
